As the townspeople grapple with their problems, mild and dire, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life – sometimes painfully, but always with ruthless honesty. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition – its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires.

The women who continue to nurture the Center are looking to you for some input on where and/or how you would like to see the organization move forward.

Since our letter to the membership in January, 2012, we have held Spiritual Circle II each month, with only two cancellations. The leadership has rotated between several Peer Leaders. Luminaria was beautiful and great fun for the organizers as well as the women attending. Book Club has also been held monthly with rotating leadership.

We would like some fresh thinking from women who are interested in the future of WCW. The Board of Directors see three possible options; 1) Continue as is with the hope that more women with a passion for revival will contribute. 2) Dissolve the organization. 3) Taking a year off and revisiting 1 & 2 in April of 2014.

WCW exists for the women of our membership and the larger community. We are totally volunteer, egalitarian in structure, empowering in nature and based on the principle that each woman deserves respect and a voice in determining her own course in life. These seem to us as principles worth standing up for. How about you?

Thank you for your attention.

Cordially,
Jane I. LaForce, Treasurer & Christine Moyer, President

We always have a choice, Pema Chödrön teaches: We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us and make us increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us and make us kinder. Here, Pema provides tools to deal with the problems and difficulties that life throws our way. This wisdom is always available to us, she teaches, but we usually block it with habitual patterns rooted in fear. Beyond that fear lies a state of openheartedness and tenderness. This book teaches us how to awaken our basic goodness and connect with others, to accept ourselves and others—complete with faults and imperfections, and to stay in the present moment by seeing through the strategies of ego that cause us to resist life as it is.
